Generic Printer Ink

Generic printer ink is ink that is not specific to one brand of printer. You can use this in any printer and it does just as good a job. The reason that many consumers like generic ink is that it is cheaper than the brand names and is easier to get in stores that don’t usually carry such items. However, if you ask the major companies, they will tell you that generic ink is of inferior quality to the proper ink for the printer. This is because they want you to buy their products exclusively. Some companies, such as Lexmark, are actually trying to make it illegal to sell generic ink, thus making an attempt to corner the market. Others, however, simply state they disapprove of the practice, but recognize that it is the right of the consumer to use whatever type of ink works in the printer. If a problem develops and the company finds out you have used generic ink, then this may void your warranty.

Quite often generic ink cartridges are the same cartridges you buy with a brand name on the packaging. There are entrepreneurs who buy ink cartridges from the major companies and then repackage them under a different name. Because they buy the cartridges in large quantities, they get them much cheaper allowing them to pass the savings on to the consumers.

Since cartridges can also be refilled, some entrepreneurs have made a business out of buying used cartridges, refilling and reselling them. These are cheaper, but there are also problems with them. Consumers have found that some o0f the refilled cartridges will not work because they have dried up before they were refilled.; If you decide not to refill your own cartridges or buy generic ink cartridges, you can make a few extra bucks selling the used cartridges to those that refill them.
