Laserjet Ink

If you are not familiar with printers you may be wondering what the difference is between laserjet ink and inkjet cartridges. Ink for laser computers is more expensive, but it is actually more economical in the long term because you can print more pages with ir. Laserjet printers use a powdered ink rather than liquid ink. This powder is called toner and is used by large companies and businesses for their fax machines, copiers and printers.

For laser printers, the individual particles of carbon are mixed with polymer so that they melt when heated, which is what happens in a laser printer. This enables the ink to bind to the paper. In a laser printer there is a drum that is negatively charged. The positively charged toner gets attracted to this drum. The drum is what transfers the toner to the paper . This is because the toner also contains a wax that melts in the heat, but dries in milliseconds. When the toner is transferred to the paper, the fuser applies heat and pressure to make sure the ink is durable on the paper.

One thing with toner for laser printers. You can choose to have it refilled when the cartridge is empty rather than buy a new cartridge. Anyone who is not familiar with laser cartridges may be surprised at their size. Instead of being small and compact, these cartridges are about the same width of the printer. They slide in quite easily and snap in place. Laser printers do have instructions as to how to insert the cartridge when you need a new one.

As a fine powder, laser toner will spray through the air. IF you do get the toner ink over your hands or clothing, it will wash off easily.
